During my final semesters at MCLA, I developed a research essay on 17th—19th century women botanists and their interaction with ecofeminism throughout their studies. Jane Colden, Nancy Anne Kingsbury-Wollstonecraft, and Emily Dickinson were the 3 women that I primarily researched, celebrating their wondrous scientific discoveries and artistic achievements. I hypothesized how these women navigate ecofeminism in a patriarchal society and compared it to the 21st century and my current understanding of this world we live in. Additionally, I spent time alongside my professor, Melanie Mowinski (@melaniemowinski), connecting her Wilderness Mindset philosophy to the way these women approach their relationship to the natural world.
My relationship to art, feminism, and nature has prospered and blossomed into something much more than I imagined throughout this project. I am so grateful for the journey I went on to make this book. Thank you Jane, Nancy, Emily, and Melanie for making this relationship possible.
This book contains scanned imagery of collages I had created in response to my research. Everything was risograph printed— a printing process I hold extremely dear to my heart.
